Which medical dramas will be worth watching? See for yourself.
July 14, 2015 – After a long nursing shift, you may enjoy kicking back and watching a little television as a way to relax. But what if the show is about the same crazy types of situations you have faced for the last 12 hours or so, with some extra drama added in? Medical TV shows continue to be a popular genre with audiences and network executives alike, and the networks have several new shows lined up for this fall. Doctors dominate the list of characters, but each show has at least one nurse in the main cast.
Here is a preview of the top medical dramas premiering Fall 2015:
Code Black
CBS
Premieres Wed., Sept. 30 – 10/9c
Inspired by an award-winning documentary, this medical drama is set in Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, “the busiest and most notorious ER in the nation,” where the staff confront a challenged system that is often overwhelmed with patients. They do their utmost to save lives, even if it means taking some extraordinary risks. The show’s name is based on Code Black situations–when there are more patients than personnel or resources to treat them all–which occur around 300 days a year.
Cast: Marcia Gay Harden (Residency Director Dr. Leanne Rorish), Luis Guzman (Senior ER Nurse Jesse Salander), Raza Jaffrey (Dr. Neal Hudson), Benjamin Hollingsworth (Dr. Mario Savetti, resident), Bonnie Somerville (Dr. Christa Lorenson, resident), Melanie Kannokada (Dr. Malay Pineda, resident), Harry M. Ford (Dr. Angus Leighton, resident), William Allen Young (Dr. Rollie Guthrie)
Chicago Med
NBC
Premiers Tue., Nov. 10 – 10/9c (Special Time)
This NBC medical drama will premier with some familiar characters appearing from time to time, as this is a spin-off of the popular “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago P.D.” shows. In fact, the show’s pilot took place as a “Chicago Fire” episode this past spring that included the mixed cast. Expect the doctors and nurses to tackle unique cases inspired by topical events, amidst the chaos of the emergency room and the kinds of emotional encounters and dramatic relationships that have become familiar in this Chicago franchise.
Cast: Oliver Pratt (Dr. Daniel Charles), S. Epatha Merkerson (Administrator Sharon Goodwin), Laurie Holden (Dr. Hannah Tramble), Nick Gehlfuss (Dr. Will Halstead), and Yaya DaCosta (Nurse April Sexton).
